TianTan hospital is the largest neorosurgical medical care, clinic reseach and education center in Asia. The neurosurgical department of the Tian Tan Hospital is an internationally renowned medical center that offers care for people with brain and spine diseases, disorders and injuries, and is also training base for residents and senior doctors in Neurosurgery in China and cooperation and training center in Neurosurgery with WHO. Dr. Zhao Jizong, one of the China's leading neurosurgeons, is the dir ector of the department.

The department's mission is to improve patient care and advance neuroscience knowledge. To fulfill this mission, Tiantan focuses on excellence in patient care, medical education and research.

The department consists of 9 sections including cerebrovascular diseases, tumors of base of skull, supratentorial tumors, infratentorial tumors, pediatrics, spinal cord, functional study, trauma and VIP wards accumulating a total of 320 beds. To assure the rapid development of neruosurgical science, the Tian Tan Hospital has, in addition to basic laboratories, other ancillary departments such as neuro-imaging, neuroelectrophysilogy, neuropathology, clini cal neuroanesthesiology, as well as neuro ICU, which are also in a leading position in China.
